Zizek on "Children of Men"
(Unfortunately, YouTube won't let me embed.)

"Children of Men" is one of my favorite films. I think Zizek expands on the beauty of its subtleties perfectly. You've got the literal meaning of "infertility" which is happening everywhere...but beyond that, you've got the metaphorical connotations that come along with being "infertile." Zizek claims this metaphor captures the "ideological despair of late capitalism." Society (not only Britain's society, but the world) is existing without history, without future--it is infertile in it's own right.

re: Zizek! A Look At Toto's Washlet

Apparently, these are all the rage in Japan. Look at how happy that squirting toilet is...and it seems to be aiming right up your butt.

I thought of this when we were watching the Zizek! DVD in class today. Feel free to check out these excellent YouTube videos of the Washlet. It's got a bunch of crazy features and yet, everyone is obsessed with it's "hands-free wash&wipe" mechanism.

...The future of human bathroom labor = look, no hands !

Anyway, I mostly think it's scary.
